CIFRE Ph.D. in Computational Physics - ML simulation of strongly correlated matter

PhD
  • Starting date: september-november 2026
  • Type: CIFRE Ph.D. (Ph.D. in a company); The student will be employed by ********, a world-tier AI company* based in Paris. The supervisor will be Filippo Vicentini, both within the company and academically. Applicants will have to go through ********'s hiring process AND be validated by me.
  • Situation: The student will share his time between the company's fundamental research laboratory, under F.V.'s supervision, and the academic research group.
  • Company name: redacted on the public listing. Will be revealed to considered candidates.

Description

The world-tier AI company, ********, is building a fundamental research laboratory, where i will be leading an effort in ML-based simulation methods for correlated quantum systems and quantum chemistry.

The student employed as part of this Ph.D. will be mainly working on simulating quantum systems with ML-based methods, most notably but not only, Neural Quantum States.
The overall objective of the project is to produce high-quality foundation models that can generalize across many problem instances, and integrate those methods with higher-level, approximate methods like molecular dynamics.

As part of his role in the company, the Ph.D. student may also interact with other efforts within the research laboratory, such as scientific applications of large language models.

An optimal candidate will have:
- Master level diploma in Physics, Quantum Technologies, Computer Science or other related field;
- Good knowledge of ML methods;
- Good knowledge of quantum chemistry OR condensed matter physics;
- Knowledge of Monte-Carlo sampling techniques and pitfalls;
- Great coding skills;
- High communication skills;
