Postdoc - ML simulation of correlated quantum matter/chemistry

Postdoc
  • Starting date: september-november 2026
  • Type: employed in the research laboratory of ********, a top-tier AI company* based in Paris. This is a permanent contract (CDI) with a very competitive (non academic) salary, for a postdoc-level position.
  • Situation: The succesful applicant will be working at the company's fundamental research laboratory, under F.V.'s supervision, and will be interacting with the academic research group of F.V. at Ecole Polytechnique and College de France.
  • Company name: redacted in public listing. Will be communicatedto reasonable candidates.

Description

The top-tier AI company, ********, is building a fundamental research laboratory, where i will be leading an effort in ML-based simulation methods for correlated quantum systems and quantum chemistry. The goal of the laboratory is to pursue applications of ML/AI to several scientific fields, including a research line on quantum physics and chemistry that I will be leading.

This position is for a position comparable to a postdoc-level hiring. The employment terms and salary is set by ********, which is far above standard academic salaries. Hiring will be handled through the company's pipeline and will include coding interviews.

The researcher employed as part of this position will be mainly working on simulating quantum systems with ML-based methods, most notably but not only, Neural Quantum States.
The main applications will be towards simulating electronic systems, mainly in chemistry (continuous space) but also in lattices.
The overall objective of the project is to produce high-quality foundation models that can generalize across many problem instances, and integrate those methods with higher-level, approximate methods like molecular dynamics.

As part of his role in the company, the researcher may also interact with other efforts within the research laboratory, such as scientific applications of large language models.

Requirements:
- PhD in Computational Physics or Computer Science, or other related field;
- Has an exceptional knowledge of Machine Learning and Quantum Physics, or has used Variational Monte Carlo methods and/or Neural Quantum States;
- Exceptional coding skills
- High communication skills;

Preferential consideration will be given to candidates who:
- Have experience working in continuous-space problems (e.g. quantum chemistry, electron gases, nuclear physics)
